JACKSONVILLE, FL – The biggest second half lead for either team was three points, and that ended up being the final margin, as 5th-seeded Arkansas escaped with a hard-fought 56-53 victory over 12th-seeded Wofford.
Alas, with possession and half of a minute to play, the Terriers’ attack suddenly stalled–unable to get into an offensive set–as precious seconds ticked off; but then when all hope seemed to have evaporated, Karl Cochran and Eric Garcia both managed to get off decent looks at game-tying bids from beyond the arc; but alas, each would rattle out, slamming the door shut on another near-miss NCAA Tournament upset for the small college from Spartanburg.
Michael Qualls led the Razorbacks with 20 points on precision 8-of-9 shooting, and SEC Player of the Year Bobby Portis added fifteen, while also pulling down thirteen rebounds.
Spencer Collins carried the Terriers with sixteen points, and Jaylen Allen chipped in twelve with 3-of-4 shooting from the perimeter.
Tom McCarthy and Donny Marshall called the action on Westwood One Sports.
