OMAHA, NE – Now a tournament regular, seventh-seeded Wichita State reaffirmed their veteran status on Friday with an 81-76 win against the tenth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana led most of the game until a 15-point surge by Wichita midway through the second half put them ahead, though there was still work to be done as Indiana refused to fade away. The win sets up a Sunday matchup against in-state rival Kansas for a spot in the Sweet 16.
Fred VanVleet scored 27 for the Shockers, who scored almost all their points inside the arc, making only two threes on the night. Yogi Ferrell had 24 points in the loss for Indiana, including four out of six from behind the arc.
Kevin Kugler and Will Perdue called the action on Westwood One Sports.
