OMAHA, NE – Jeren Kendall’s walk-off home run gave Vanderbilt a 4-3 win over Cal St. Fullerton on Monday in a game that stretched almost 20 hours after being suspended because of rain on Sunday night.
The defending champions from Nashville had trailed the Titans 3-0 when the weather halted play late last night. When the action resumed on Monday afternoon, Vandy got on the board quickly with an RBI double from Zander Wiel on the very first pitch of the day.
Tyler Peitzmeier held the Commodores in check from there – until the bottom of the ninth. Wiel led off with a double before Bryan Reynolds drove him in with a double of his own to cut the deficit to 3-2. Kendall followed with his game-winning home run.
Vanderbilt enters the winner’s bracket and will play TCU on Tuesday night. Cal St. Fullerton will take on LSU in an elimination game tomorrow afternoon.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
