INDIANAPOLIS – Tom Brady threw his first interception of the season – but it hardly mattered as the New England Patriots improved to 5-0 with a 34-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.
Brady was 23 of 37 for 312 yards and three touchdowns to make up for a deflected pass that Mike Adams took back for a touchdown early in the game.
The most-talked-about play around the water cooler on Monday will, however, be the bizarre fourth down play the Colts failed on midway through the second half.
Indianapolis shifted out of a traditional punt formation, then appeared to be baiting the Patriots to jump offside. With a few seconds on the play clock, the Colts inexplicably snapped the ball to safety Colt Anderson, who was stuffed immediately. New England took over in Indianapolis territory and scored a touchdown to make it a two-score game.
Kevin Kugler and James Lofton called the action on Westwood One.
