SPOKANE, WA – Thirteenth-seeded Hawai’i–playing in their first NCAA Tournament since 2002–did not waste any opportunities on their way to a 77-68 upset victory over fourth-seeded Cal. It marked the Oahu school’s first ever NCAA Tournament win in five tries, dating back to 1972.
Guards Quincy Smith and Roderick Bobbitt sparked the Rainbow Warrior campaign with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Cal–playing without their senior point guard and leading scorer, Tyrone Wallace–were carried by junior guard Jordan Mathews’s 23 points in the losing effort.
Kevin Calabro and Dan Dickau called the action on Westwood One Sports.
