PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Angel Rodriguez scored a career-high 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting with three 3-pointers to lead No. 3-seed Miami past No. 11-seed Wichita State, 65-57, advancing to next week’s NCAA Sweet Sixteen in Louisville.
The Hurricanes led by 21 midway through the first half, but the Shockers stormed back in the second half and used an 11-0 scoring run to take the lead, 43-42, on a 3-pointer by Ron Baker with 10:26 to play.
An alley-opp dunk by Sheldon McClellan gave Miami the lead again at 44-43 one minute later, and the ‘Canes never trailed again. McClellan finished with 18 points. Shaq Morris and Fred Vanvleet each finished with 12 for Wichita State.
