Interview: UConn coach Geno Auriemma on managing expectations, facing an improved Mississippi State squad

03/31/2017

DALLAS, TX – Before the season started, the 2016-’17 campaign looked like it would be a rebuilding effort for defending champion Connecticut.  But if there ever was any doubt that UConn does not rebuild, but instead “reloads,” Geno Auriemma’s Huskies completely erased it, as they come into the Women’s Final Four with a perfect 36-0 record.

He knows that their opponent–the second-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs–have improved significantly on the offensive end since Connecticut breezed past them last year’s Sweet Sixteen, but if the Huskies can maintain their identity and poise throughout the contest, Auriemma likes their chances.

John Sadak caught up with Geno Auriemma ahead of the game.
