SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Top-seeded Arizona trailed for most of the game before taking the lead for good with under eleven minutes to play and then held on for a 69-60 victory over seventh-seeded St. Mary’s. It didn’t come easy for the Wildcats–who may have benefited from some questionable officiating down the stretch–but they managed to score late when they needed to, thwarting a gutty effort from a Gaels squad that threw everything but the kitchen sink at them.
Lauri Markkanen led Sean Miller’s team with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jock Landale paced the Gaels with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Kevin Kugler and Dan Dickau called the action on Westwood One Sports.
