NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Saints are headed to the divisional round of the playoffs after surviving a scare from the Carolina Panthers 31-26 on Sunday at the Superdome.
The Saints led by 12 points late after Alvin Kamara’s touchdown run, but the Panthers answered with a long touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey and had the ball deep in Saints territory looking for the go-ahead score. After an intentional grounding call on Cam Newton, the Panthers had one final chance on fourth down but Vonn Bell broke through the line and sacked Newton to ice a victory for New Orleans.
Kevin Kugler and Dan Fouts called the action on Westwood One.
