Thrill of major upsets subdued by “no-contest” on Saturday

14-seed Abilene Christian, 13-seed Ohio, and 11-seed UCLA all scored upset victories on Saturday to conclude play in the Round of 64. But earlier in the night, the NCAA announced that the scheduled game between Oregon and VCU would be declared a “no-contest” due to multiple positive tests for COVID-19 within the Rams program, thus giving Oregon an automatic bye into the Round of 32.


At Lucas Oil Stadium, a 59% free throw shooter stepped to the line with his team trailing by one with just 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation…


Earlier in the night, the Ohio Bobcats knocked out defending champion Virginia, whose two-year reign (technically) came to a stunning end…


Meanwhile, though it’s hard to look at a UCLA victory as an “upset” in almost any context, the 11th-seeded Bruins continued their surprising run from the First Four to a double-digit win over 6th-seeded BYU…
