WCWS Update: Day 1 wins for JMU, OK State, ‘Bama and UCLA

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The story of the day on the opening day at the Women’s College World Series was James Madison. The Dukes earned the program’s first-ever WCWS win, defeating top-seeded Oklahoma 4-3 in extra innings on Thursday. They’ll next play Friday night in the winners bracket against Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls held on to defeat Georgia 3-2 in the day’s second game. The Sooners and Bulldogs will play an elimination game to open a quadrupleheader on Saturday.

In evening action, Alabama took care of Arizona by a final of 5-1, while UCLA blanked Florida State 4-0. The Crimson Tide will take on the Bruins in Friday night’s second game, while the Wildcats and Seminoles will take the field Saturday afternoon with the loser eliminated.
