The Saint Peter’s Peacocks defeated a second team from Kentucky, outlasting Murray State 70-60 to match Florida Gulf Coast (2013) and Oral Roberts (2021) as the only 15th-seeded teams to ever make the round of 16.
The day started with the defeat of the defending champion and No. 1-seed Baylor Bears, as the 8th-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels beat them 93-86 in overtime. The Tar Heels led by 25 with ten minutes left in the game before Baylor mounted a comeback for the ages to tie it up and send it to the extra period but couldn’t pull out the win.
