WCWS: Texas rallies to set up Red River showdown for national championship

06/07/2022

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Texas and Oklahoma will face off for the national championship after the Longhorns staged an improbable rally to stun Oklahoma State on Monday night at the Women’s College World Series.

Oklahoma had secured its spot in the best-of-three championship series earlier in the day courtesy of a dominant 15-0 win over UCLA. The Bruins had set up a winner-take-all second semifinal game with a win in the day’s opening game, but the top-ranked Sooners wouldn’t be denied in the rematch.

In the evening session, Texas needed two wins to reach the finals. In the opener, the Longhorns cruised to a 5-0 win, but trailed by the same score in the nightcap before a wild sequence gave them the lead.

Texas went on to hold onto that 6-5 edge to set up a Red River Rivalry showdown for the national title.
