Following third period tie-breaking goals on Thursday night, the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Quinnipiac Bobcats are headed to the 2023 Men’s Ice Hockey National Championship Game in Tampa.
Minnesota and Boston University were tied 2-2 after two periods in the first National Semifinal before the Golden Gophers erupted for four third period goals, including two empty netters. Luke Mittelstadt was the hero for the Gophers, scoring Minnesota’s third and fourth goals to push the squad to its 13th National Championship Game appearance.

Similar to the first semifinal, Quinnipiac and Michigan were tied 2-2 heading into the third period. Quinnipiac’s Sam Lipkin scored 1:24 into the frame to make it 3-2 Bobcats, and Zach Metsa added a 4th with 7:00 to play. Quinnipiac added an empty netter to finish off a 5-2 victory.
