ST. LOUIS, MO – In the midst of a potentially crushing meltdown, the Kansas Jayhawks summoned just enough composure to punch their ticket for the Elite Eight.
Up by 9 with under six minutes remaining, the Jayhawks allowed North Carolina State to whittle the deficit all the way down to one, but were able to hang on for a 60-57 victory to set up a date with another North Carolina school – the Tar Heels – with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Naismith Award finalist Thomas Robinson led Kansas with a monster effort, recording 18 points and 15 rebounds, with Elijah Johnson adding 11 for the Jayhawks. C.J. Leslie led N.C. State with 18 points.
Wayne Larrivee and Fran Fraschilla called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
