Gymnastics: Danell Leyva grabs the bronze medal

08/01/2012

LONDON – Halfway through the men’s all-around gymnastics competition things were not looking good for Team USA. After faltering in the team competition earlier this week, the Americans were off to a slow start on Wednesday.

But Danell Leyva changed all that with spectacular routines on the parallel bars and high bar. Leyva’s two huge scores rallied him from 6th place heading into the final rotation to 3rd and a spot on the podium.

Kohei Uchimura of Japan won the gold, while Marcel Nguyen of Germany earned the silver.

After his thrilling ascent to a medal, Danell stopped by our studio to talk with John Tautges and our gymnastics announcers Joe Tolleson and Peter Vidmar.
