PGA Championship Round One: Rory McIlroy one shot back of Carl Pettersson

08/09/2012

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC — After a week of rain and wind during practice, the skies cleared and the world’s best golfers took aim at what is normally regarded as one of the toughest golf courses in America – going low on day one of the PGA Championship at The Ocean Course.

With soft greens from the storms and little wind to contend with early in the day, the PGA’s best were able to attack the flags.

Leading the way is Sweden’s Carl Pettersson, who fired a 6-under 66 to lead Rory McIlroy, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Gary Woodland at -5.

1991 champ John Daly rolled back the years to post a 68. Defending champ Keegan Bradley and Australians Aaron Baddely, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy are all -4 as well. Tiger Woods shot a three-under 69 in his opening round.
