ARLINGTON, TX – Billy Donovan’s accomplishments in the NCAA Tournament take a back seat to no one: back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007, three Final Fours, and three consecutive Elite Eight appearances with the Gators’ 62-50 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night.
But without a Final Four berth since 2007, Florida’s stature as an elite program has slipped, if only slightly. Donovan knows a win over Michigan in the South Regional Final on Sunday can remind everyone how wildly successful the Gators program has been since the turn of the century.
Donovan and junior center Patric Young know they will have hands full with a Michigan team riding high after an improbable comeback victory over top-seeded Kansas to set up this showdown between two of the nation’s most entertaining teams.
Brad Sham caught up with Coach Donovan ahead of the game, while Fran Fraschilla sat down with Patric Young.
