PALO ALTO, CA – It was far from easy, but the Stanford Cardinal fed off the home crowd to race past North Carolina late and earn a trip to the Final Four with a 74-65 victory on Tuesday night.
Playing in front of a raucous crowd at Maples Pavilion, the Cardinal actually trailed 63-62 with less than four minutes left after Tar Heels freshman Jessica Washington hit a big three. The Cardinal responded with a 12-2 run to finish the game and secure a Final Four berth for the sixth time in seven years and 12th time overall.
Stanford will play unbeaten Connecticut in the national semifinals in Nashville on Sunday.
