LOUISVILLE, KY – Just two games into the Second Round, and we already have a major upset, as 14th-seeded UAB came back from an early ten-point deficit to knock off third-seeded Iowa State 60-59.
Robert Brown led the Blazers with 21 points on 3-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. Freshman spark-plug William Lee added fourteen for Mike Davis’s squad, including hitting the game-winning jumper and a pair of free throws in the final seconds to clinch the win for UAB.
With leader Georges Niang struggling to find his rhythm, sophomore Monte Morris carried the Cyclones with fifteen points. Jameel McKay added ten points and twelve rebounds in the losing effort.
UAB awaits the winner of the UCLA – SMU contest.
