NEW ORLEANS, LA – Rick Pitino is playing with house money these days. And he knows it.
His Louisville Cardinals weren’t supposed to win the Big East Tournament. They weren’t supposed to get past top-seeded Michigan State in the West Regional. They weren’t supposed to land in this year’s Final Four.
And they sure aren’t supposed to get past the mighty Kentucky Wildcats in the national semifinals. But hey, what’s one more daunting obstacle for a team with this kind of resiliency?
Sixteen years after leading Kentucky to the national championship, Pitino must now slay the program he once ruled, in his quest for a second NCAA title. Jim Gray caught up with Pitino to get his thoughts on a game which just may be the biggest basketball game in the history of the state of Kentucky.
