COLUMBUS, OH – North Carolina State was criticized for what many deemed an over-exuberant reaction upon learning they qualified for the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.
Is it OK if they smile now?
After a last-second three-point attempt by Georgetown’s Jason Clark sailed wide, the Wolfpack officially punched their ticket for the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005, after a 66-63 victory over the Hoyas. The Wolfpack trailed by ten points in the first half, then withstood a Georgetown comeback in the second half to set the stage for a nail-biting final minute of regulation.
C.J. Leslie, C.J. Williams and Scott Wood all scored 14 points apiece for the Wolfpack, while Hollis Thompson led all scorers with 23 points for Georgetown. NC State will meet the winner of Kansas-Purdue in the Sweet 16.
Wayne Larrivee and John Thompson called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
