Michael Phelps set an all-time mark at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, winning an unprecedented eight gold medals – to add to the six golds and two bronzes he won in Athens four years earlier.
Phelps’ 16 Olympic medals are second only to Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who won 18 from 1956-1964. He’ll have a chance to top that mark this summer in London.
