LONDON – Just like that, Michael Phelps’ career as an Olympian is over. During a twelve-year span, Phelps appeared in four Olympic Games, dominating the headlines at three of them.
No one will ever forget his 8-for-8 performance in Beijing or the way he rallied in London to finish his career with a flurry of gold medals.
He didn’t just break the mark for most medals by a single Olympian, he obliterated it. The number 22 will be etched in Olympic lore for a long, long time – unless, of course, he changes his mind and swims in Rio in four years’ time.
After it was all done, Phelps stopped by our studio to talk about his career and his performance at London 2012 with our Jim Gray.
