SAN JOSE, CA – Tournament teams beware: Syracuse’s vaunted 2-3 zone is clicking on all cylinders, and suddenly the Orange look poised to make a very deep run into March Madness.
C.J. Fair led a balanced offensive attack with 18 points, as Syracuse reached the Sweet Sixteen with a 66-60 victory over California. Three other Orange players reached double-figures, as SU held a whopping 41-19 edge in free throw attempts, proving critical in what was ultimately a six-point game.
Richard Solomon had a monster game for the Golden Bears, with game-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds. But collectively, Cal was held to just 39.3% shooting from the field, and turned the ball over 17 times.
Ted Robinson and Bill Frieder called the action on Westwood One Sports.
