British Open: Phil shoots 66 to win his fifth major

07/21/2013

APTOPIX British Open GolfGULLANE, SCOTLAND – Phil Mickelson had a Sunday to remember at Muirfield, playing what he called one of the best rounds of his career to capture the 2013 British Open.

Mickelson had said on Saturday that he liked his position, five shots off the lead, and figured a round in the 60s would put him in contention. He managed that and then some, firing a 66 to match the low round of championship and win the claret jug. Mickelson birdied four of his final six holes to win the fifth major of his career.

Henrik Stenson of Sweden was second at even par overall, while Ian Poulter, Adam Scott and third-round leader Lee Westwood all finished a further shot back at +1. Tiger Woods shot a final-round 74 and finished +2 for the championship.
