HOYLAKE, ENGLAND – Rory McIlroy continued his dominating performance at Royal Liverpool, finishing with a flurry to take a six-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the 143rd Open Championship.
McIlroy was even par through his first 10 holes on Saturday, and after a bogey at the 12th he found himself in a tie atop the leader board with Rickie Fowler. However, from that point on, their paths diverged. The Irishman birdied the 14th before carding eagles on two of the final three holes. He finished with a 68 on the day and is 16-under par for the Championship.
Meanwhile, Fowler stumbled, with bogeys on three of his final five holes. Fowler is at 10-under after 54 holes.
Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson are a shot farther back at -9.
