The Open Championship: Zach Johnson wins in playoff

07/20/2015

Britain Open GolfST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND – Zach Johnson won the 2015 Open Championship on Monday, defeating Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a playoff at St. Andrews.

Jordan Spieth’s shot at the Grand Slam ended after he finished one shot behind the leaders and missed the playoff.

Johnson was playing a few groups ahead of the leaders when he rolled in a long birdie putt at the 18th hole to post 15-under. He then waited as Spieth fell a shot short, but Leishman and Oosthuizen matched the number.

In the four-hole playoff, Johnson started out with back-to-back birdies to get a shot ahead of Oosthuizen. Leishman bogeyed the first playoff hole and was never really in the mix.

Back at the 18th, and with a birdie putt to win the Open outright, Johnson missed and tapped in for par, giving Oosthuizen a chance to roll in a 10-foot birdie putt to force an extra hole. In the end, the South African’s putt rolled by and Johnson clinched his second major after winning the 2007 Masters.
