First Round Highlights: Virginia pummels Hampton 81-45

03/17/2016

RALEIGH, NC – After a slow start in the opening minutes, top-seeded Virginia caught fire and never looked back on their way to an 81-45 blow-out win over their in-state foes, sixteenth-seeded Hampton out of the MEAC.

Redshirt senior forward, Anthony Gill, led the Cavalier campaign with 19 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Virginia’s only real scare came just before halftime, when head coach Tony Bennett collapsed to the sideline floor and appeared to be dazed as he struggled to recover his bearings.  Bennett, though, said he was okay after the game, citing dehydration as the cause of his fainting spell.

Senior guard, Quinton Chievous, led the Pirates with 17 points in the losing effort.

John Sadak and Eric Montross called the action on Westwood One Sports.
