First Round Highlights: Rhode Island handles Creighton in First Round upset, 84-72


SACRAMENTO, CA – Eleventh-seeded Rhode Island took control early and kept Creighton at arm’s length throughout the affair, on their way to an 84-72 First Round upset.

All five ram starters scored in double figures, led by freshman Jeff Dowtin’s 23 points. Dowtin and E.C. Matthews also each managed to shoot a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Guards Marcus Foster and Ronnie Harrell, Jr. scored 15 points apiece to pace the Bluejays.

Jason Benetti and Mike Montgomery called the action on Westwood One Sports.
