CWS Update: Stanford survives, NC State outduels Vandy

06/22/2021

OMAHA, NE – Stanford used big bats to stave off elimination, while NC State moved within a win of the championship series courtesy of lights out pitching on Monday at the College World Series.

The Cardinal exploded for seven runs in the 3rd inning on the way to a 14-5 victory over Arizona. Meanwhile, in the nightcap, NC State’s Sam Highfill and Evan Justice combined on a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Vanderbilt. Jack Leiter allowed just one run on four hits in eight innings for the Commodores, but it wasn’t enough with the offense shut down.

Vanderbilt and Stanford will face off in an elimination game on Wednesday night. NC State will be off until Friday afternoon, when they’ll face the winner of that game.
