San Diego State, Miami knock out remaining 1-seeds in Sweet 16 action


For the first time in Men’s NCAA Tournament history, a 1-seed will not play in the Elite Eight. 5-seed Miami blew out 1-seed Houston, 89-75, in Kansas City, while San Diego State eliminated Alabama in Louisville with a 71-64 win.

For the first time in school history, San Diego State will play in the Elite Eight after a 71-64 win over top overall seed Alabama. The Aztecs ended the game on a 5-0 run in the final minute to seal the victory.

Leading 42-36 at halftime, 5-seed Miami pulled away from 1-seed Houston in the second half to eliminate the final #1 seed in the 2023 Men’s NCAA Tournament. Hurricanes guard Nijel Pack led all players with 26 points, including 7-of-10 shooting from three-point distance.

Attempting to continue its Cinderella run, 15th-seeded Princeton saw its 2023 Tournament come to an end at the hands of the Creighton Bluejays. The Bluejays were led by 22 points from Ryan Kalkbrenner and 21 points from Baylor Scheierman.

In the nightcap in Kansas City, it was all Texas from the start. The Longhorns jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and led by 17 at halftime en route to an 83-71 win over Xavier.
