PORTLAND, OR – They boldly proclaimed “We’re back to bust your bracket,” and VCU backed up those words.
After a last-second, three-pointer fell short which would have tied the game, the 12th-seeded Rams celebrated a 62-59 victory over 5th-seeded Wichita State, perhaps setting the stage for another improbable NCAA Tournament run, one year after VCU reached the Final Four.
VCU’s Bradford Burgess scored a game-high 16 points, leading three Rams in double-figures – all of whom came off the bench. Joe Ragland scored a team-high 15 points for Wichita State.
Kevin Calabro and Bill Frieder called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
