JACKSONVILLE, FL – Returning to action fewer than 48 hours–and traveling hundreds of miles–after prevailing over BYU in a 184-point First Round slug-fest on Tuesday night, 11th-seeded Ole Miss may not have had much left in the tank, as they fell to 6th-seeded Xavier 76-57.
The Musketeers dominated inside, led by center Matt Stainbrook bruising his way to 20 points and nine rebounds. Guard Dee Davis helped the Xavier cause by shooting 4-for-9 from beyond the arc on his way to seventeen points.
Stefan Moody–who finished with fourteen points–tried to lead a second-half Rebel charge, but he just didn’t have the same legs or scoring touch that he displayed on Tuesday night.
Xavier advances to face 14th-seeded Georgia State on Saturday, fresh off of the Panthers’ thrilling upset of the 3rd-seeded Baylor Bears.
Tom McCarthy and Donny Marshall called the action on Westwood One Sports.
