SAN DIEGO (11/11/11) – The NCAA Basketball season tipped off in a way that’s never been seen before as North Carolina defeated Michigan State 67-55 in the Carrier Classic on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson.
A crowd of more than 8,000 spectators – including President Obama and honorary captains Magic Johnson and James Worthy – looked on as the #1 Tar Heels shot 47% en route to a season-opening victory. North Carolina was paced by Harrison Barnes’ 17 points, while the Spartans got 13 from Draymond Green.
Kevin Kugler and Bill Frieder called the action on Westwood One Sports.
