Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was saluted by the fans during his last home game at Anfield before a summer move to L.A. Galaxy in MLS, but the good feelings were short-lived as Crystal Palace spoiled the party with a 3-1 win.
Elsewhere, Sadio Mane recorded the fastest hat trick in Premier League history as he scored three goals within three minutes of Southampton’s 6-1 victory over Aston Villa.
At the top of the table, Arsenal’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester United means the Gunners just need a single point from their final two fixtures to secure third place and avoid the Champions League playoffs in August. United has already secured a top-four finish and will return to Europe’s top competition after a one-year absence.
At the bottom, QPR and Burnley are already down, and one of Hull, Newcastle or Sunderland will join them. Hull is in the most precarious position, needing a win at home against Manchester United on Sunday and results elsewhere to go their way to avoid the drop.
