This Week in the NCAA: Louisville among basketball teams headed overseas

07/31/2015

Louisville - UC-Irvine_APIt’s summer break for America’s students, which means it’s also a great time for a nice summer vacation. But unlike their classmates’ study-abroad or backpacking trips, some of Division I’s best basketball stars are getting a chance to hone their craft overseas as part of sanctioned team trips.

More than 50 squads, including Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals, will be taking advantage of an NCAA rule that allows programs to schedule a foreign trip once every four summers. The Cardinals will head to Puerto Rico, while Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa State and BYU will all have their passports stamped in Spain.

One of the more interesting trips is that of Coastal Carolina, which will head to Cuba for a trio of exhibitions against the Cuban national team in early August.
