PHILADELPHIA, PA – San Diego State survived a highly-contested physical tussle with Oklahoma to finally pull away in the second half and emerge with a 70-55 victory in a South Regional Second Round match up.
As he has all season, Jamaal Franklin led the Aztecs, with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. The unsung hero of the night for SDSU, though, was Senior Guard James Rahon, who came off the bench to score seventeen points in just nineteen minutes, on 6-of-11 shooting. Despite only shooting 42.9% from the field as a team, the Aztecs knocked down 6-of-15 shots from the perimeter to go along with their notoriously stingy defense.
Mississippi State transfer Romero Osby carried the Sooners with 22 points and eight rebounds in what would be the fifth-year Senior’s final collegiate game.
The Aztecs 2013 campaign will continue on Sunday, when they face the fifteenth-seeded Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast, who earlier Friday scalped the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas in the biggest upset of the tournament so far.
Scott Graham and John Thompson called the action on Westwood One Sports.
