Every week on College Football Country, we take you around the nation to find out more about one of the things that makes Saturdays so great: tailgating.
You know that they know how to celebrate before and after games in Tuscaloosa—15 national championships and 27 conference titles certainly gives Alabama fans plenty of practice on the big stage… and this weekend the stage is very big, as the top-ranked Crimson Tide hosts SEC rival and #10 LSU.
Arguably the best place to be on game day is the Quad right in the center of Alabama’s campus, surrounding the historic Denny Chimes bell tower, erected to honor former school President George Denny, under whom the program gained national prominence. The pre-gaming is a little different on the Quad, because no vehicles or trailers are permitted in order to make room for the over 100,000 fans that consistently pack these 20 acres for every home game.
On the Quad, fans enjoy great southern cooking (only charcoal grills are permitted!), interactive games including very competitive yard games, and a Legends autograph tent. The “Kick-off on the Quad” begins three hours before game time and also features the university’s Million Dollar Band as they make their “Elephant Stomp” toward the stadium an hour before kick-off.
Dig out your best crimson and houndstooth, stop by Dreamland BBQ to pick up all your tailgate food necessities and head toward the Quad this weekend. This is bound to be a great matchup between the Tide and the Tigers, which means the Bama tailgating will be on an even higher level!
