NEW YORK, NY – Bryce Cotton scored 23 points as Providence captured its first Big East tournament title in 20 years with a 65-58 victory over Creighton on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Doug McDermott led all scorers with 27 points for the Bluejays, but it wasn’t enough to rally Creighton after they scored just 17 points in the first half.
The Friars last won the conference tournament in 1994 and haven’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2004.
Kevin Kugler and John Thompson called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
