PITTSBURGH, PA – Notre Dame prevailed in overtime Saturday night to advance to the Sweet 16 with a 67-64 win over Butler. The Irish defense held strong in the closing seconds of regulation, as Butler had multiple chances to win the game but couldn’t get a clean shot away. The ACC champions’ offense then took over in the extra period as Notre Dame took the first lead and didn’t trail again.
Roosevelt Jones scored 23 for the Bulldogs to lead all scorers, with teammate Andrew Chrabascz close behind at 20. Steve Vasturia scored 20 points to lead Notre Dame, who advance to face either Kansas or Wichita State next Thursday in Cleveland.
Scott Graham and Kevin Grevey called the action on Westwood One Sports.
