RICHMOND, VA – The VCU Rams won’t have to wait until Selection Sunday to know if they’ve made the NCAA Tournament field this year.
A year after making it in with an at-large bid after losing the CAA Championship Game, VCU (28-6, 15-3 CAA) took the guess work out of it with a hard-fought 59-56 win over the top-seeded Drexel Dragons (27-6, 16-2).
Darius Theus scored 16 points and had five assists, five steals and four rebounds in earning the tournament’s MVP honors.
Freshman Damion Lee overcame a slow start to score 20 points for the Dragons, who trailed by 16 at the half, but rallied to get within one point late in the game.
Scott Graham and John Thompson called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
