MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Ryan Tannehill’s third touchdown pass of the day gave – plus a late defensive stand – was enough to give Miami a 24-20 victory Sunday over the New England Patriots.
Tannehill connected with Marcus Thigpen with 1:21 remaining to put the Dolphins ahead, then the Miami defense held on as Tom Brady frantically attempted to rally his team for yet another late victory. Michael Thomas’ interception in the end zone finally secured the win for Miami.
With a victory, the Patriots would’ve secured an AFC East title. They’ll need one win from their final two games at Baltimore and home against Buffalo to win the division. Miami, meanwhile, is right in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race and can win the division if they win out and the Patriots lose twice. Miami is at Buffalo next week and home against the Jets in Week 17.
Tom McCarthy and Rod Woodson called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
