TAMPA, FL – No Cam Newton, no problem for Carolina as Derek Anderson subbed in and led the Panthers to a 20-14 season-opening win over Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon.
In for the injured Newton, Anderson was 24 for 34 for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the day. Carolina had a 17-0 lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Buccaneers rallied and had the ball down 17-14 late. The Panthers wrapped up a victory when the defense recovered a Bobby Rainey fumble.
