DENVER, CO – Senior leader, Georges Niang, made sure there would be no early exit for his fourth-seeded Cyclones this year, as the forward’s twenty-eight points carried Iowa State to a 94-81 win over thirteenth-seeded Iona.
The Cyclones got off to a fast start and showed from the get-go that they were more than ready to match the Gaels’ preferred up-tempo pace. Point guard Monte Morris silenced all questions about his recent shoulder injury, complementing with twenty points while doling out eight assists.
Behind senior guard, A.J. English’s twenty-eight points, the Gaels cut the lead to seven with 2:50 play, but the MAAC Tournament champions would get no closer.
Kevin Kugler and Jim Jackson called the action on Westwood One Sports.
