JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Jaguars used a strong running game and timely defense to defeat the Tennessee Titans 21-13 on Thursday night.
Both teams entered the contest at 2-12, rendering the outcome meaningless other than for draft positioning next spring.
But despite the poor records, the game was an entertaining one, with Jacksonville only sealing the win on a sack as time was winding down while Tennessee was setting up for a last-second heave into the end zone. The Titans were without a timeout and were helpless to stop the clock as it ran out.
Toby Gerhart and Jordan Todman carried the load for the Jags, with a combined 124 yards on 17 rushes – including Todman’s 62-yard touchdown dash in the fourth quarter.
Charlie Whitehurst had a good day for the Titans with 287 yards passing and a touchdown.
Bob Wischusen and Brady Quinn called the action on Westwood One.
