OKLAHOMA CITY — Day one of the 2012 Women’s College World Series is in the books and Oklahoma, Cal, Alabama and Arizona State have the upper hand in the double-elimination preliminary round after wins on Thursday.
Oklahoma downed South Florida 5-1 and will now take on Cal, who came from behind to defeat LSU 5-3. Alabama beat SEC rivals Tennessee 5-3 and will now face Arizona State, who notched a 3-1 victory over Pac-12 foes Oregon. Those games will take place Friday night and the winners will then be just a single victory away from a place in the championship series.
The losers of Thursdays contests will play elimination games on Saturday afternoon. First up it’ll be South Florida and LSU at noon Eastern, followed by Tennessee versus Oregon.
