OMAHA, NE – The Virginia Cavaliers scored first in the bottom of inning one. The TCU Horned Frogs answered with two runs in the second. But then the pitchers took control and allowed just two more runs in the next thirteen innings. The first of those came in the fifth when Virginia tied the score at 2-2. Sixty-seven more batters would come and go without making the bases round-trip before the Cavaliers’ Daniel Pinero brought home the winning run on an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifteenth. It was the longest CWS game since 1970.
The win gives Virginia the advantage of two days rest before playing again on Friday. For TCU, they will face Ole Miss in an elimination game on Thursday.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
