OMAHA, NE – Carson Fulmer pitched seven and two-thirds scoreless innings and the Vanderbilt bats did the rest as the Commodores moved within one win of back-to-back NCAA baseball championships with a 5-1 win over Virginia on Monday night.
Connor Jones matched Fulmer most of the way, until running into trouble in the sixth inning when Will Toffey’s RBI double opened the scoring. Vanderbilt tacked on three more runs in the seventh against Jones and reliever Kevin Doherty.
Kevin Kugler and Scott Graham called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
