OMAHA — Brandon Dixon’s RBI double gave Arizona the lead in the ninth inning and the Wildcats held on to capture the school’s fourth baseball national championship on Monday night with a 4-1 win over South Carolina.
Arizona took an early 1-0 lead in the third, but saw South Carolina tie the game at 1-1 on a seventh inning ground out. But the Wildcats wouldn’t be denied, rallying for three runs in the top of the ninth to complete a perfect 5-0 run in Omaha. It is Arizona’s first championship since 1986.
Kevin Kugler and Scott Graham called the action.
